Attention PoT fans!

Oy oy! Calling all Prince of Tennis fans!! Got some questions for you all in regards to the anime and manga:

1. Is the manga different at all from the anime? Different plot, different ending, etc? I mean, I'm sure there are some differences, because there usually are between manga and anime, but is it anything extreme, like FMA, for example? Or is it like Ranma or Inuyasha, where the anime ends way before the manga?

2. Exactly how many volumes of the manga are there? lol, I've been told 'a lot.' I'm guessing around thirty or something, yes?

3. Who translates the manga in the U.S.? I know it's not TokyoPop, and for some reason I wanna say it's VIZ, but I have no idea...

*cough* Erm, why no, I'm certainly not thinking of buying another ridiculously long manga series. Why do you ask?

^.~

Hmm, I was a Prince of Tennis freak...
1. The manga quite different from the anime, especially in the latest chapter, because the anime series now a step ahead than the manga.
2. The lastest volume I know is 32 ^^; And still continue until now ;p
3. Err, dunno, I'm not an american ;p

PS: I also don't recommended you to buy this series. The story become more and more silly in later chapters. Can I ask you which pairing you like here? ;)

Oohh, thanks for the info! I don't really have a favorite pairing yet, because I've only been watching the show for...uh, less than a week, lol, so I haven't seen too much of it. ^^;; And most likely and won't be buying the manga, especially since someone left a link below where I can just read it online. ^.^

1. The anime is different, yes. The creator said he wanted the anime to be different than the manga b/c he doesn't want the fans to go through everything twice. But personally, I think the manga is way better.
2. Volume 33+ is being translated right now. Lots more to come @_@!
3. It's being done by VIZ (eww).

I LOVE POT! XD

So many hot guys, I'm not even kidding. Those charas are said to be "middle school"... they look more like college students <3. The pairings are practically GIVEN to you. Takeshi Konomi... he gives great fanservice to us crazy fangirls.

2. It's being SCANLATED, I mean. You could find it here: http://stoptazmo.com/prince_of_tennis/

Anything anime related @_@ I'm here.

Oooohhh!! THANK YOU!! ^.^ Sweet, I'll just read it there, then, hehe.

The creator said he wanted the anime to be different than the manga b/c he doesn't want the fans to go through everything twice.

Oh. *blink*blink* lol, that actually makes a lot of sense. Why have I never thought of that before? ^^;;

Yeah, VIZ...not my favorite company ever, heh.

Gah, and I totally don't believe they're in middle school! I mean, I know they're supposed to be, but when when I'm watching it I definitely pretend they're older than that. ^.~

3. It's done by VIZ, and from what I've heard, the translation really sucks. They even changed the names. I think you're better off downloading the scanlations, than actually buying it. (which is sad, because the manga rocks so much, but yeah, a bad translation can really ruin everything)

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
VIZ always screws stuff up like that. >_< I definitely think I'll be downloading the scanlations. Hey, it's cheaper, too! lol. ^.~

The manga and the anime are similar for awhile, then diverge hugely, then sort of meet up again, and then diverge hugely once more. I think you really do need to watch/read both for the whole Prince of Tennis experience. I'm also a bigger fan of the manga (I like the story and characterizations better there), but I couldn't possibly live without the anime's filler episodes. They're both pretty amazing.

VIZ is translating in the U.S. and they're up to volume 11 (volume 12 in March). I only bothered with their translation at all because parts of volumes 10 through maybe 13 aren't scanlated on Stop Tazmo, so I read Viz's volumes 10 and 11 to fill in the blanks. They honestly could be worse, but I dislike them because they use everyone's first name and as a result they keep mixing up Oishi and Fuji. Tezuka should never be called Kunimitsu by a first year! Goodness. Plus, I'm told Akutsu originally smoked in the manga, but in Viz's he's got a toothpick. What's up with that?

I love filler episodes, lol. After all those tennis matches, you need some different stuff in between. ^.^ I'm a huge fan of manga though, so I'll definitely be downloading the scanlations, and I'll have to take a closer look at the published manga next time I'm at the mall.

Oy, and leave it to VIZ to edit stupid stuff like that... ^^;; Though, if there's only that many volumes out so far, then it wouldn't be too much of an issue to start buying it. I was afraid they were already up in the 20s or something! Hmmm, guess we'll see...

Editing Stuff Out

I know exactly what you mean! In the One Piece manga version, Sanji smokes but in the TV show he's sucking on a lolipop. o.0

Viz Shonen Jump put out the manga here in the US and I have maybe the first 3 mangas the first box (24 episode) set so I guess that I have no real say over whether the plots stay the same but for now it's looks like it. I dont know if they would have the chibi episode in the manga though...

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, they probably don't. I think I'm going to start downloading the scanlations and go from there. ^.^

If you can sit tight til the weekend, I should be making a *really really big* Prince of Tennis introduction (in the form of a series of posts) that will provide a really thorough answer to this question and hopefully any others you might have.

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, I keep seeing mentions of this post you're making, so I guess the best thing to do would be to just be patient. ^^;; You have no idea - well, I guess you do, hehe - but I've fallen completely head-over-heals for the characters on this show. I'm so in love!! ^.^

Oh man i totally feel like going illegal and downloading the whole series and then DLing the whole anime series ;_;

I actually can't offer you any info ^_^;;

But i can vouch for the fact that there is a LOT of fanservice in this series...and that they definitely do NOT seem like middle school kids. I mean, Ryoma seems like a high school student at least...and he's the YOUNGEST student. So it's a little outlandish, but I don't really pay attention to the ages nemore. I'm too distracted the pairings and the booooys >_>
