more random

1) BTW, chapter 15 of 'All the Answers' IS CURRENTLY WITH MY BETAS. w00t. So go bug them, not me. XDDD

2) OMG. Episode 21 of Ouran High School Host Club? TOTALLY MAKES ME WANT TO SHIP HIKARU/HARUHI. Like, for serious. And this isn't the first time I've wanted to ship them. But that part in the rope net trap thing WAS TOO FRICKIN CUTE!! I watched it about a bazillion times, no joke. Oh, and the class representative? Totally had Horio's voice. No really. I checked. ^.^

3) MORE OMG. Fruits Basket this time. MANGA SPOILERS LIKE WHOA! What the crap, is it over?? I don't really keep up with it. I buy it from Tokyopop, and every so often I'll check the latest scanlations to see what's going on, BUT WAS THAT IT? Chapter 131 - the end?? Well, it's close to the end, in any case. NOBODY'S CURSED ANYMORE!! HOLY SHIT! I didn't think the day would ever actually come!! Waaaah, and the fight in...chapter 124, I think it was? The Kyo/Yuki fight? I am a stubborn Kyo/Yuki shipper, SO IT MADE ME ALL SORTS OF HAPPY. Though I was also cheering for Kyo/Tohru, so I'm not disappointed in the least. KISSING. OUD FOUSD FOISDU FOISDFSDF. SO CUTE. Oh oh oh, and also, Yuki got the student council girl! Actually, I was also shipping Yuki with that girl's brother, whatever the hell his name was, but this leaves openings for all sorts of incest/threesome pairings that I will most likely never read or write because I'm not that involved in the Fruits Basket fandom. ^^;; Anyway. Man. I love Fruits Basket. I can't believe it's coming to an end. I may have to go catch myself up on the rest of it, because Tokyopop is being a slow bitch with it. One volume every four months? What the shit is that??

4) More translations for 'Starts With a Spin' have come up! They can all be found on my webpage. The latest two are the Italian and the Finnish translations (the Italian archive you need to sign up for to read SWAS), but it's also been translated into German, Russian, and Hebrew. SO COOL. I can't read one word of any of them, lol, but way cool nonetheless!!

5) I finished Death Note. *pouts* I kept hoping you-know-who would pop up again, even though I knew he wasn't going to. And I was pretty sure I knew how it was going to end, but I didn't expect HIM to be the one to do it. Um. Yeah. [/incoherentness] SO GOOD THOUGH. I am thoroughly in love with this manga, and I promise I will be watching obsessively when the anime comes out. Mainly because you-know-who will still be there. XDDD AND I NEED THE MOVIE!! HURRY UP AND COME OUT ON DVD. Or better yet, come to the U.S.!!!

6) I also finished Hikaru no Go. The manga and the 2004 special (WHICH DID NOT COVER THE ENTIRE MATCH LIKE I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO! RAWR!). So good. I just. I have no words. It was really good. I'm sad it's over. But there is still much fic to be read, so yay!

7) I downloaded Nobuta wo Produce because Aja demanded it of me. ^^;; Well, not of me specifically, but I'm not one to turn down raving requests for people to watch jdramas full of pretty Japanese boys and gratuitous boy-touching. ^.~ Haven't watched it yet, BUT OH I'M GOING TO!

8) Um. Ok, there is no #8. I'm going to go watch the next dubbed episode of Tenipuri now. And try to think of what the hell to write for my [profile] santa_smex fic. Heh, it's a pairing I've read before and kept trying to find more fic for because I liked it so much, but when it comes to writing it myself I have no idea where to start. *scratches head* It shall be fun, though! And a challenge! Yayness. ^.^

ATA: Will be back to you by Saturday (my Saturday). I'm working tonight and have an essay to write for tomorrow, so at everytime where Kmart doesn't own my soul I'll be writing that. Yeah. ^-^ I will beta it some time around maths tutoring tomorrow, so never fear!

Ouran 21: I'm torn between Tamaki/Haruhi and Hikaru/Haruhi, but came to the conclusion that it has to be Tamaki, otherwise Kaoru would me all emo... with Tamaki.

*scampers away to Gattaca essay*

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
lol, no no, take your time! I was being cheap and letting myself off the hook, hehe. ^^;;

I like Tamaki/Haruhi too!! The problem is that I also like Kyouya/Tamaki. ^^;; Which leaves Haruhi free to be with Hikaru, but then poor Kaoru is all alone!! ...Though I suppose he and Tamaki could be emo together. And Kyouya could smack them around some to get them out of their funk. Hmmm.

=P

[identity profile] clobo-da-hobo.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
ahh but omg! there could be a thing that happens in episode 22, with the new male character!! its a tricky one.

Stop reading the episode thingies! XD

And Maxie, after episode 8, I am rather partial to Haruhi/Kyoya.

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Ouran is rather like PoT. You can ship everybody with everybody, =P I remember I was shipping Mori/Haruhi for an episode or two, lol.

[identity profile] clobo-da-hobo.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ooooooooooooooo i love kyoya, he looks so good in the dress :P
i cant help myself,
i even saw a part of the episode raw.
i was far to intrigued :P
im such a sad person :P

and one of the guys form gakuen heaven looks like an older, more detailed version of kyoya!!

and maxine yay! for almost getting all the answers updated!!
im super dooper excited!

-totally with you on death note. :/ so much love yet :(
-need to finish HnG (and PoT!) i just don't want them to end. ever.
-aja will be the death of me. but i refuse to download anything else until i've watched the +40 GB of anime on my computer. fail.

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
rofl, you still haven't finished PoT? Damn, woman! Get on that! XDDD

HnG is love. Pure and simple. Though it hasn't completely taken over in the ficcing area yet, and I very much doubt I'd write anything for it. Isn't it funny how you can love so many different fandoms, yet there's only certain ones you'll actually stay involved in?

Heh, Aja. She's the reason I watched PoT, too. >_< I don't stalk her LJ or anything, why do you ask?? ^^;;;;

[identity profile] sodamnquirky.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
-i know, i know. fail. :/
-[HnG] it is. i read about half of it in two days and then stopped because slgldsksdlk. i don't want it to end. period. i also want the anime. so much love.
and yes about the fandom thing. except HP & PoT I haven't gotten into fandom at all. My viewing/reading experience is all I'm usually interested on, since there's always someone around to discuss it.
HP, I was dragged into. PoT is (on my flist) so terribly related to HP that the "transition" just happened. But all my other obsessions? (buffy, alias, house, other anime, movies) stay a fandomless experience.
-i don't remember who is responsible for my watching PoT. it took over my flist, and i first hated the idea of a dying fandom (haha, sillyness. not happening) then finally gave up and asked for episodes. then aja made that Guide to Tenipuri and i was DOOMED.
Well. I stalk her LJ since, like, late 2002-early 2003. So I know the feeling. Mmm, lurking.

^^;; I think that year 12 takes priority.

Pffft.

You serious student types.

lol, I'm totally kidding, I actually have complete respect for people who work hard in school. Cuz, eh-heh, I didn't at first and am now seriously regretting that. ^^;;

[personal profile] preachelectric 2006-09-08 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
The only reason I'm working as hard as I am is because of a stupid decision I made with my subject selections. But yeah, I will be playing some more KH tomorrow, definately.

[identity profile] sodamnquirky.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 02:21 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe, yeah, the transition. I'm still amazed at how suddenly half my flist was into Tenipuri. lol, it just made me happy though, because I'd been into it for a few weeks by that point.

Of course then half y'all ran off and emersed yourselves in bnf_brawl! =P

[identity profile] sodamnquirky.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)

i'm kidding. i just have a soft spot from the cracky chaos that is brawl. i LOVE it.

ACK! I need to finish Death Note!

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)

EEEE Nobuta o produce...where where where did you get? I saw someone do a sasunaru version of a scene from it and if it's fairly accurate...damn. Pretty boys doing that that's AWESOME. So help please? I'LL LOVE YOU FOREEEEVVVVVER

[identity profile] nuhiep.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get it from several sources. The Jdramas Community has it all subtitled and uploaded to Megaupload and some Sendspace files. You just have to join to download. Also, Silet Regrets is a great site for all Asian dramas, including movies. They're all subtitled and easily downloaded. Just make sure you have HJSplit to put the files all back together again.

I really, really can't recommend Nobuta wo Produce enough. It's so good. I learned about it on Silent Regrets months ago after watching the Hana Yori Dango and Sailor Moon live actions. (I highly recommend HYD!) The character dynamism, their parallel evolutions, the way their friendship naturally unfolds, the sweet, cracky humor - there's something effortless and sincere about this series. It's now tied for my favorite Jdrama of all time.

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard of Hana Yori Dango. But...I have no idea why or from where. ^^;; It just sounds really familiar! What's it about?

[identity profile] nuhiep.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hana Yori Dango actually started out as a really popular manga running in Margaret from 1992-2004. It was so well-received that they turned it into a 50+ anime series. Because of the popularity of the anime, they created a jdrama that has now been renewed for a second season with the entire original cast.

The story is about this awesomely strong-minded girl named Makino Tsukushi. She's a smart scholarship student at this insanely exclusive high school for the scions of rich families. Just trying to keep her head down and make it through school, Tsukushi ends up running afoul of the F4 when she stands up for one of her friends who accidentally bumps into the group. The F4 - or the Flower Four - are the four sons of the most influential families in school. They are untouchable, and have this awful practice of "red lettering" people. Whoever has a red letter in their locker is then the target of systematic bullying - by the WHOLE SCHOOL. And I mean everyone participates.

Determined not to be forced out of a school she worked so hard to join, Tsukushi finally loses it and KICKS THE SHIT out of F4's leader - Doumyouji Tsukasa - in front of everyone.

At this point, Doumyouji falls in love with Tsukushi, because he rightly recognizes that she is THE MOST AWESOME GIRL EVER. (She reminds him of his totally kickass older sister, which is weird, but never incestuous.) This is all set up in the first episode. The subsequent episodes show the evolution of their relationship. I love this series because Doumyouji is a HUGE PRICK, and they have to work really hard to convince both the audience and Tsukushi that he's really just a little boy who was raised by wolves and actually needs to be taken home and have his tummy rubbed. (My friend's words, not mine.) Because of the premise, it's focused entirely on character development and all plot conflict is meant to support the revelation of Doumyouji's character and his intense devotion to and dogged belief in Tsukushi.

It's a seriously funny drama. It's set up like your typical high school drama, but the crack-tastic writing raises it well above and beyond the angst-fest we've come to know on America's WB channel. The characters are really well cast, the production values were high, and the chemistry between the actors is great. Matsumoto Jun received an award for his performance of Doumyouji Tsukasa. The story is characterized by a real warmth and sincerity and just earnestness that you can't deny.

To sum it all up: AWESOME SERIES. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. ^_^

I LOVE THE LIVE ACTION! I haven't read the manga or seen the anime though.

(Anonymous) 2006-09-08 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm . . . I would say that I definitely loved the live action best too. It took the most awesome and crack-tastic parts of the manga and anime and distilled them into a short series. A lot of the manga, because it's serially run, drags out the action. With the live action, you definitely get the true spirit of HYD. The anime and manga focus the most on Tsukushi, whereas in the live action, Tsukushi acts as a transformative agent and narrator. So she is present, but the person doing the most changing and having the greatest journey is Doumyouji. I didn't feel like the emphasis on Doumyouji was as great in the manga and anime, but that's just my two cents.

YOU'VE NEVER SEEN/READ HANADAN?! How did you even manage that?

[identity profile] nuhiep.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
No problem. ^_^

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe, yep, what [personal profile] nuhiep said. I downloaded it from Silent Regrets, though it's all through megaupload over there, so I recommend shelling out $5 and getting a premium account for two days. Otherwise I think it'd take you forever to download it all. I still haven't watched it, but I keep hearing it's amazing!!

[identity profile] rainbower.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I wouldn't be able to translate SWAS to Finnish even though it's my first language o.o I've read so much stuff in English that my figures of speech would be really messed up and closer to Finglish than Finnish. I see that the translator, zarya (?) has the same problem at times as well although she still remembers the comma rules (I don't) and has done a good job :) props to that. it's a brilliant fic, no matter what the language is

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the problem with translations. I have no way of telling if they're staying true to the original or not. Not to say I don't trust the translators, and I'm always honored that they even want to do it in the first place, but yeah, I just have to hope that the finished product turns out alright!

[identity profile] rivieremalfoy.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow, that was way more spoilers for Fruits Basket than I thouhgt ^^" I'm caught up on the Tokyopop manga, but yea, they're only on chapter 83 right now. Aw, I'm so glad they get rid of the curse but it's going to be really sad when fruits basket ends. T_T

[identity profile] maxine-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, sorry! Maybe I should have said Spoilers BEYOND What Tokyopop Has Printed. ^^;; Because yeah, they're definitely farther behind. *pouts* I wish Tokyopop would hurry up with the rest of the volumes!! Fruits Basket is so good, man. *_*

[identity profile] rivieremalfoy.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's cool. Luckily I'm the kind of person who would read the spoilers anyway. I love Fruits Basket, it's my favorite manga. It's a shame that they stopped the anime halfway through the series. They didn't even introduce all of the zodiac.

[identity profile] prestonsbarr.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 02:14 am (UTC)(link)

I believe so...even though it's taking over for Full Metal...mmm, Roy Mustang....I downloaded the first two chapters of it and I started to watch episode one, but I didn't get much farther than the first ten minutes because I had to go download the opening theme song. But, I'm excited to watch it. I'm always up for new shows! YAY!
